I'm currently studying at Singapore Polytechnic, pursuing a Diploma in Aerospace Electronics. Previously, I attended the Institute of Technical Education, where I studied Aerospace Avionics. In my courses, I've learned various skills like soldering, crimping, and using different tools and equipment. Additionally, I've gained knowledge in reading diagrams and understanding aircraft systems, such as the pitot-static system, which measures pressures to determine speed and altitude.
During a six-month internship at Bombardier, I had the opportunity to work alongside engineers from diverse backgrounds. I learned that there are two main categories of engineers: mechanics, who focus on engines and airframes, and avionics, who specialize in instrumentation and electrical/electronic equipment. This experience gave me a comprehensive understanding of the aerospace industry.
I was able to apply what I learned at the Institute of Technical Education to my internship and gained valuable hands-on experience in aircraft maintenance and repair. For example, I learned how to remove and replace a pitot tube, applying sealant and conducting tests afterward. This internship was enlightening for me, and it inspired me to pursue a career as a Licensed Aircraft Engineer.
