Why do I want to sign on for SCDF?
- Since a young age, I have always respected and looked up to my uncles and cousins who were firefighters. I envied them when they shared their experiences and life stories from their line of work. Growing up, I was thrilled to join the SCDF for my National Service and aimed for the firefighter vocation, but circumstances led me to become a Watchroom Operator instead. Despite being in Watchroom Operator, I felt happy that I could still work under the fireside but then, I realized that sitting down was not the right fit for my active lifestyle. Thus, I pulled myself up by training my fitness and get into a stronger physical shape by my own.
Throughout my time at Yishun Fire Station as a Watchroom Operator, I discovered that I thrive on being hands-on. I maintain a healthy lifestyle and always seek opportunities to use my strength and capabilities in the right vocation. I always got curious when there's fire turnout and I've always wondered what are the firefighters doing on scene and what are they facing on. I can only read the call text and information in my line of work. Watching my rota fireside learning and training has always give me boost and strong desire to be like them. It has always been my passion to follow my uncles footsteps too. I believe I belong to the fire side, where I can learn, utilize my strength, and contribute to the community by helping those in need.
I understand that being a firefighter entails more than just fighting fires. It requires commitment to physical fitness, teamwork, continuously learning new strategies and techniques and making critical decisions under pressure to save lives and property. I aspire to be a firefighter because I am driven by a desire to assist others during their most vulnerable moments, and I find purpose in protecting lives, property, and the environment from the destructive force of fires. The adrenaline rush of responding to emergencies, tackling fires, and performing rescues in high-pressure situations also appeals to me.
I am a man of my word, loyal, and prefer to take on leadership roles, control the team, and make decisions in any situation. I strongly believe that I am the right person for this job, and I am eager to seize this opportunity. I am committed to lifelong learning, acquiring new knowledge and skills, and developing a stronger character. I look forward to contributing to SCDF and making a difference in my career.
