MCOT.

Process Engr for MIRI Crude Oil Terminal Rejuvenation and Upgrading Project (MCOT) in Sarawak Malaysia ( 2007 - 2009). Involved in full project cycle from detail design study ( review/approve documents) until project construction and commissioning, EPC project phase.

Some Highlights :-

Support Commissioning Team for HUC of 2 FWKOs and their inlet header. Total 4 new FWKOs.

The following process sequence as mentioned is applicable when starting up operation of new FWKO in the rejuvenated plant of MCOT Plant in Phase 2 in safe operation.

-Electrical Power System is ready & energized
-Instrument Air System is ready & energized
-DCS is ready for use
-Fire Fighting and Foam System is ready & energized
-Fire and Gas Detection System is ready & energized
-Gas and Venting System is ready & energized
-Emulsion and Wax Treatment is ready & energized
-Crude Receiving (Existing) Facilities is ready & energized
-Crude Receiving (New) Facilities is ready & energized
-Produced Water Circulation Pump P-4275/P-4280 is ready, energized
-Sand Removal System, consist of Sand Washer V-4300 and P-4330 Jet Pump, is ready & energized
-Pipe and Instruments around FWKOs (small bore, PSVs, Control Valves, On-off valves)

+Mini Hazop ( as the scribe) for commissioning the 2 FWKOs:-

The purposes of the HAZOP study are:
 to identify and understand process hazards and operability issues associated with changes to a facility specifically for partial commission units.
 to identify and understand of procedure issues associated with partial commission procedure.
 to analyze the adequacy of existing safeguards and propose additional control as necessary.

Scopes:
 To briefly review previous HAZOP analysis covers changes associated with overall MCOT Rejuvenation project including partially commission units.
 To cover changes of the temporary line from FWKO to WEMCO related to partially commission unit activities.
 procedure related in this case Interim OPM 3 to activities i.e. Procedural HAZOP.

SKOR PL ( SKO pipeline networks ).

Process design at consultant office for identified PLs at SKO for replacement. Study network pipeline and approved 1 transient Olga pipeline.

J4 (Brown field).

CSR for SIPROD campaign, trouble shootings, and update sizing based on new oil rate and slugging issues for oversize pipeline. Support to HUC contractor during J4 SIPROD. Attached on board J4 for 2 weeks.
Flow Assurance. Conducted sampling and sent to SGS Labuan for PVT report for 1 well. Visited lab and witnessed PVT report preparation and submission by Lab vendor.

DPOC South Sudan.

6- month seconded to South Sudan for DPOC oil resumption after long wells shut in due to Sudan civil war. Assessed facility health checks (Palouch facility) before fully oil resumptions. Conducted plant checks nearby FPFc ( Adar, Gumry and Moleeta) where incoming crude sources for Palouch ( OBM).

Assessed critical safety element for major equipment ( separator, PSV, FGS, DCS , Gas Boot ) systems and water injection plant – in situ conditions.
Assessed defected Gas boot column ( shaken) in terms of safety and reliability. RCA > vibration and pipe support stress due to FIV.
Conducted hydraulic SS pipeline from export pumps ( PS ) to Sudan port > Maxoil rate capacity , P/T profile and asses wax relations to PPT and PPD/CI consumption.

Conducted surface network models for well optimization study ( > 300 onshore wells). Produced report and suggested to procure Pipesim for software.
Findings presented to DPOC consortium ( CPP - Petronas JV).

GNPOC North Sudan.

Conducted flow assurance pipelines for Neem/Diffra/Canar pipelines , trouble shoot high GOR wells in NEEM facility , eventually proposed facility modifications - all facilities are in North Sudan.

Visited FPF at GPOC fields via chopper. Visited lab and witnessed sample taken and bottle tests for brief FA scopes. Conducted in situ Olga sims for wax initial assessment.

Conducted thorough study for AG wells at Neem. High fireball at flare stacks due to high GOR wells ( AG wells). Conclusion: wells with high energy Butane (C4) released and flared. Suggested NEEM facility upgraded and alternative modification options.

Results : Findings and presentation to BOD GPOC in Khartoum.

SPOC South Sudan.

Assessed SPOC FPF readiness to receive and export crude to GNPOC Sudan.
Simulated major pipeline hydraulic steady state ( checked crude properties , P/T profile ) and separator adequacy checks. Assessed new limit diagrams.

Results : Findings presented to RSS MOP.

GSWP ( Oil) – Green generic platform design template.
1.5 years seconded in Technip Jakarta overseeing consultant completion of FEED for GSWP ( oil field) .

RAPID ( Green Design )

Process engineer for Detail Design documents for Olefins Storage: Ethylene , Butadiene and Propylene. A project for PETRONAS (RAPID) in Pengerang Johor in which major equity owned by Saudi Aramco. EPCC by China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering (CPP), a subsidiary of CNPC. which was conducted in Tianjin, China ( 2018).

Other Operational Supports:-
OGT Kiyanly , Turkmenistan.

Wet gas pipeline trouble shoot using OLGA for Mashyrikov offshore platform MCR-A to Oil Gas Terminal (OGT) in Kiyanly, Turkmenistan. In-situ Olga simulation verifications to check the crude/condy and wet gas properties and pipelines operating envelopes to meet post Shutdown windows.
-Developed pigging methods and philosophy for wet gas pipelines. Included info on sweep velocity / slugging min turn down rates/ramp up and steady state strategies to avoid surging and flooding slug catcher , liquid HOL up and slugging boundaries.
-Developed strategy for condensate pipelines as well and proposed upgrading production separator – FIP for separator internals

OLGA Simulations scopes.
Projects conducted and completed using OLGA for transient FA studies include, not limited to:-
-KNAG - SOGT pipeline study ( location : Sabah Malaysia)
-Bukit Tua pipeline in Indonesia ( field location : West natuna Indonesia)
-BARAM – MCOT pipelines ( location : Sarawak Malaysia)
-SSGP ( Sabah Sarawak gas pipeline) – MLNG ( Malaysian Liquified natural gas ) by pass compressor at BOF ( Bintulu offshore facility).

Audit and other scopes.
-Conducted due deligence process audits ( DDA) for Malikai, F14 platforms ( Deepwater SHELL operated fields) located offshore Sarawak. Audit was Office based in Shell Miri Sarawak.
-Conducted DDA few other platforms owned by PETRONAS and operated by 3rd party operators in operator’s offices.
-Optimized processes to reduce cost and increase efficiency ( completed Yellow Belt and to complete Green Belt Six Sigma by Aug 2023.

Strategic initiatives for PETRONAS renewable energy portfolios. (Hydrogen Fuel Cell) - value creation for innovative production processes for cutting-edge Solid oxide fuel cell products meeting Net Zero Carbon Emission ( MFT 50.30.0).

Focal person to develop PETRONAS own Fuel Cell Technology via Joint Industry Partnership (JIP) with CSIRO's (Commonwealth Scientific and Industry Research) Australia - a government research agency and evaluated other potentials venture capitals proposals submitted to PETRONAS. Represented PRSS in the Fuel Cell Hydrogen Workshop – National Roadmap toward alternatives energy. The project was not materialized due to technology immature and remained as non-core business for PETRONAS. Research efforts involved literature reviews, pacing the technology and overall market watch and conducted site visit to CSIRO laboratory and research center. Presented to PETRONAS board members on current and future direction of alternative energy.

A project team member for “Market Survey for Biodegradable Lubricant" using Food Grade lubricant in plant machinery. Executed and coordinated the market survey visits and data gatherings within F&B plants in the states of Penang, Kedah, Perak, Melaka, NS and Johor.

A project team member for “Development of Palm Olein (B5) for ADO (Automotive Diesel Oil)”. Roles to strengthen PETRONAS initiative and capability to implement pilot plant Diesel Euro 5 from palm oil derivatives (Palm Olein) and diesel based oil with locally developed additives. Project was jointly ventured and collaboration with national car maker (PROTON) specializing diesel engine performance and durability, engine wear and tear testings after every 50,000 km mileage up to 200,000 km.

SKILLS developed includes:-

  • Conferred with researchers and engineers to orchestrate planning, evaluation and interpretation of laboratory and field projects.
  • Developed fuel cell materials or fuel cell test equipment.

Project Team in the Inventory of Emission Factor for Local Industries (Palm Oil, Quarry, Cement and Power). The team consisted of few Professors and sponsored by JAS (Malaysia Department of Environment). Visited three (3) Palm Oil Mills, Cement & Quarry plants and three (3) Independent Power Producers i.e TNB Power Generators - (Nations Power Generator) to collect emission data on derivatives of SOX, NOX, and CO. Studied data on POME (palm oil mill effluent) discharge into palm oil ponds, Sox and NOx emissions at fuel stacks and generated fugitive emission factor for the nation. The research and emission factor model were taken from the US DOE emission factors studies.

SKILLS Includes:-

  • Great exposure to process engineering for these industries, prepared flow charts, extracted industries maps. Various links to government agencies like JAS, Jab Pemetaan Negara ( Malaysian Mapping Department) and others.
  • Supported project planning and execution efforts relating to technical documentation and process development.
