Corporal First Class (CFC) MUHAMMAD SYl'ARUDDIN BIN ROMZI served with distinction in Cyrus Battery, 21st Battalion Singapore Artillery, as an Artillery Operator. He turned Operationally Ready on 1 February 2023. CFC SYl'ARUDDIN's role demanded precision in driving the Field Howitzer and strict adherence to procedures when operating the mechanisms of the Auxiliary Power Unit. Despite the challenge, CFC SYl'ARUDDIN excelled in the role. He displayed resilience during outfield exercises and was able to value-add to his commanders by sharing
suggestions to improve the deployment and recovery of the howitzer. He was also a caring soldier who looked out for his peers both in camp and out in the field. Given his qualities, CFC SYl'ARUDDIN would be a valuable asset to any organisation.

CFC SYl'ARUDDIN's role demanded precision in driving the Field Howitzer and strict adherence
to procedures when operating the hydraulic mechanisms of the Auxiliary Power Unit. Despite the
challenge, CFC SYl'ARUDDIN proved capable of performing under stressful conditions, from the
unit's local training to its overseas live-firing evaluation. CFC SYl'ARUDDIN not only contributed
as an operator, but value-added by highlighting to his commanders alternative methods in
improving the detachment's standards. He also took charge of his peers in the absence of
commanders, and could be trusted to fulfil tasks related to camouflaging the howitzer and
accounting for stores and equipment. In recognition of his competence and hard work, CFC
SYl'ARUDDIN was promoted to the rank of CFC, the highest for all enlistees, given only to the top
30% of every cohort. In recognition of his commendable and consistent contributions, he was also
presented with the Commanding Officer's Coin during the overseas exercise.
CFC SYl'ARUDDIN was a well-respected soldier. He worked hard and attained the Gold Award for
,his Individual Physical Proficiency Test. He spent time outside of the unit's training programme to
train those who struggled with physical fitness. CFC SYl'ARUDDIN was also in charge of welfare
in his detachment. When fatigue levels built up during the overseas exercise, he constantly looked
out for the safety of his peers and would recommend to his commanders on means to boost
morale. This was cardinal as his detachment was tasked to perform the most number of missions
in the unit.
A leader among men, coupled with his dedication and humility, CFC SYl'ARUDDIN would be able
to contribute signifi~antly. His stellar character and strengths would make him a valuable asset to
any organisation.
