Summary

As a Group Corporate Finance Manager at UMW, I leverage my skills and credentials in accounting, finance, and business strategy to evaluate and execute M&A proposals, potential collaborations, and sustainability initiatives for the group. I am a qualified ICAEW Chartered Accountant (ACA) and successfully passed my CFA Level 1 (2018), with close to 15 years of experience in various sectors and industries.


Prior to joining UMW, I was the Deputy Head of Division for Strategic Asnaf Development at Lembaga Zakat Selangor (MAIS), where I led the planning and implementation of the Asnaf Development Blueprint, a comprehensive and holistic framework to empower the beneficiaries of Zakat funds. I also managed the budget, reporting, and compliance functions for the division, and provided thought leadership and guidance to a total of 118 staff members. My passion is to make a positive and sustainable impact on society through ethical and responsible practices.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Closely monitor project development and track progress to ensure that it is completed appropriately and within budget and timeline.
  • Develop Gantt chart and deliver status reports to Management on a timely manner.
  • Perform analysis and evaluation on new business opportunities, assess potential impact and formulate recommendations.
  • Report on any snags in project timeline and provide suggestions for solutions.
  • Analyze data and restructuring information to identify better ways to do business as well as new business opportunities. This information is furnished to senior management in facilitating their decision-making process.
  • Coordinate on financial modelling or analysis and manage financial, tax, commercial, legal, and operational due diligence process in a transaction.
  • Analyze financial, operational, and legal positioning of strategic business units to proactively suggest strategic options related to applicable exercises such as debt refinancing, fund raising, leverage financing for acquisitions, bidding processes and debt restructuring-related services including sale of non-performing assets.
  • Finalize and execute transaction documentation inclusive of initial financial model, and definitive agreements.
  • Coordinate, integrate input and output from various parties on presentation to Management Committee or Board meeting.

Selected Achievements

  • Successfully coordinated the crafting of the overall group's business plans until 2030
  • Performed evaluation and financial feasibility studies on several business proposals ranging from new mobility, aerospace and industrial equipment
  • Played a key role in the integration process arising from the acquisition of the group by Sime Darby, covering preparation of factsheet for each business units as well as review of financial performances and comparable valuation
  • Coordinated the sale of the Komatsu business unit under UMW as part of product harmonization between UMW and Sime Darby

  • Drive the aspiration and implementation of the Asnaf Development Blueprint
  • Ensure effective implementation and disbursement of Zakat funds towards Asnaf
  • Plan and monitor budget implementation within Division and Department
  • Review and drive improvements / innovations within the organization
  • Provide thought leadership and guidance for staff under supervision (118 staff within my supervision)
  • Ensure adherence and compliance towards the set framework, guidelines and SOP's

Selected achievements

  • Played a key role in monitoring and steering the successful execution of various

    division, followed by restructuring to improve efficiency and workload among staff

Selected Achievements

  • Led the process of organizing and data cleansing for the database of Asnaf students that have received zakat scholarships from year 2008 - 2019
  • Successfully identified and quantified the gap for Zakat collection based on the
    Selangor workforce along with the recommended strategies and action plans to
    rectify them
  • Managed to produced the effectiveness and needs analysis of an education
    program at the school level, involving 231 primary and secondary schools, as well as more than 20,000 Asnaf students in Selangor
  • Played a key role in coordinating the planning and implementation of the kickoff for Asnaf Development Blueprint among key stakeholders

    comprised of English speaking professional crowd that brought in revenue and
    recognition for the organization
  • Launched the Refugee Education Project comprising a group of Rohingya
    students and oversee significant academic achievements over the period
  • Securing the annual financial support for several key projects which included the
    Food Distribution school project in Perlis
  • Successfully ran a Ramadan fundraising campaign which brought in more than
    RM500,000 for the organization
  • Gained the support and recognition from the State Education Department on the
    effectiveness of the school programs
  • Successfully secured the Tax Exempt Status for the organization which is a huge
    milestone
  • Improved stakeholders relationship through regular updates, meetings which
    subsequently generated significant amount of goodwil
