I'm a teacher who is committed to ensuring that students learn experientially. In the case of the creative writing workshop that I spearheaded in CGS, my goal was to convince students of the pleasures and life-enhancing capabilities of the creative writing process by providing them with opportunities and the skills to appreciate works aesthetically. To that end, I complied a reader based on the interests of the students who signed up for my creative writing workshop in CGS. I had aimed to guide my learners towards reading what was the best in their favourite genres. Each of my sessions began with a group discussion on the reading issued in the previous session so that students would be able to learn from one another what makes good writing good. This was followed by a feedback session of their own work, which sometimes incorporated learning points that they gleaned from the reading. I hope to be able to contribute to SOTA's literary arts programme by continuing to engage learners on their own terms and to encourage them as practitioners based on my own experience as a working and reading writer. As a writer, I have a small portfolio of 6 poems published in Quarterly Literary Review Singapore.
Aside from my literary pursuits, I'm a keen fan and student of highland bagpipes, achieving a level 8 certification from the Scottish Qualifications Authority. I'm also serving as the secretary for the Pipe Band Association of Singapore.
