Summary

Effective student committed to learning, developing skills in Biomedical Engineering and team contribution. Self-directed and energetic with superior performance in both autonomous or collaborative environments, working independently and collaborating with others on group projects. Through volunteering at numerous places and interned as a research assistant, I have developed excellent communication and teamwork skills. I am now seeking a new challenge to further develop my biomedical engineering skills.

Research Assistant

Auckland Bioengineering Institute (Empathic computing laboratory)
11.2022 - 02.2023
  • Project: Using Virtual Reality to assess Traumatic Brain Injury
  • This project explores how Virtual Reality (VR) can be used to help people with traumatic brain injury (TBI) recover. We developed a VR simulator that will allow people to experience everyday activities (e.g. shopping in a supermarket) and practice being able to perform these activities following a brain injury.
  • Project involves some VR software development using unity, as well as testing and readjusting of the system and helping to run user studies and data collection from the VR experience.
  • Worked both independently and collaboratively in fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Gathered, arranged, and corrected research data to create representative graphs and charts highlighting results for presentations.
  • Collaborated with other researchers to develop successful research strategies.\
  • Troubleshot and resolved equipment and process issues.\
  • Participated in lab meetings and project presentations.

Enginuity Day

I had the opportunity to become a leader of groups of ~20-30 Year 12 and 13 students. I had the job of taking them around to different workshops, which allows them to experience what engineering is themselves.

With this role, I had the chance to:

  • Share with them my experiences of engineering and help get them excited about studying a degree that truly enables you to make a huge impact in the world
  • Supervise workshops to ensure they run smoothly
  • Show teamwork skills by having a good communication with the other volunteers
  • Assisted with special events and programs.
  • Maintained clean, neat, and operational facilities to serve program needs.

NZ Robotics Olympiad 2022

This is an annual NZ Robot Olympiad (NZRO) competition for school students from year 1 to year 13.

I volunteered myself for this event and had an amazing opportunity to interact with many students who are interested in engineering like me. I had the opportunity to:

  • Help set up event
  • Motivate school students to study engineering.
  • Share my experience with school students
  • Support engaging, fun and smooth-running events by helping with organisation and planning
  • Take care of all the school students who participated
  • Use strong interpersonal communication skills to convey information to others
  • Greet visitors and answered questions about the program, requirements and opportunities
  • Photography
