My life as a global nomad and "third culture kid" has provided me with life experiences and skills in adaptation that will help me succeed in any position. Shortly after my birth in Canada, my mother and I moved to China. Subsequently, we moved to New Zealand where I spent my early childhood.
When I was 9, Cambodia became our home and it was here that I was initially exposed to the harsh realities of life in a developing country. The vast contrast in culture and in observing the quality of life for many in Phnom Penh, allowed me to become more grounded and grateful for the privileges that I have.
When I was 11, I moved to Singapore which again presented new opportunities and experiences. I was able to develop my passion for sport and the arts. In Middle School, at Stamford American School, I was named Most Outstanding Art Student.
In Grade 8, I transferred to United World College where I became interested in giving back to the community through service. I enthusiastically embarked in an Environmental Service to improve the campus sustainability. In recent years, my interests have evolved to becoming more concerned with social issues. Working with Jakarta Street Kids in High School has enabled me to support youth in Indonesia. I have also enjoyed the opportunity to expand my skills as a student photographer, capturing key events and moments in high school life. A keen rugby player, I have been proud to have been named Under 16 captain of our high school team. This has further developed my leadership skills and ability to motivate my teammates.
All of these experiences, in different countries, at different ages, have helped me mature, develop flexibility and the ability to cope with life's diverse challenges.
Jakarta Street Kids is a project run through UWC in which money is raised and donated to families in Jakarta for education and Healthcare. So far the project has helped 16 students go through from Primary to their High School Diploma. During my time working with Jakarta Street Kids and the XS Project, I have run different events with UWC and raised donations to go directly to both organizations. My roles have included, working with children and sales.
