Summary

Communicative Scientist proficient in teaching, programme management and networking. Talented individual educated in safety procedures, processes and regulations.

14 years of research experience specialising in the science of carbon nanostructures (CNTs, graphene and graphene related materials), synthesis of polymer electrolytes and other organic structures (polymers of intrinsic microporosity, metal organic frameworks) for applications in composites, nanoelectronics and energy storage. Project leader for various energy storage and composites projects in IMRE. Experienced in the synthesis of CNTs via Chemical Vapor Deposition, air-free techniques, wet-chemical synthesis of metal nanoparticles, chemical modification of carbon nanostructures and microfabrication techniques such as photolithography. Experienced in the synthesis and deposition of graphene related materials. Well-versed in nanomaterials deposition techniques such as electrophoretic deposition, inkjet printing, electrostatic atomization and various coating techniques. Also very experienced in various morphological characterization techniques such as Transmission Electronic Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), porosity measurement techniques, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), electronic characterization techniques such as Scanning Kelvin Probe Microscopy (KPFM) and optical techniques such as UV-Vis, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. Specialised in electrochemical modelling and characterization techniques like Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). Well-versed in Li-ion battery construction, electrode and electrolyte composite materials synthesis. Accustomed to handling both technical projects and teaching assignments. Managed the Energy Thrust lab as a collaborative project between the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJ), Ben Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) and NTU under the Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (BGU-HUJI-NTU-CREATE). Enthusiastic about and experienced in teaching both lectures and tutorials for statistics, Engineering Mathematics and laboratory techniques for undergraduate classes in NTU (consistent teaching review score of >4). Fluent in spoken and written English and Mandarin. Mentored students in NTU and M.Sc. in Imperial College London. Selected and participated as a young scientist representing Singapore in the 62nd Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting (Physics) in 2012. Selected as part of the post-conference contingent sponsored by the State of Baden-Württemberg to visit universities and research institute in Germany. Presented in European Materials Research Society (EMRS) meeting in Strasbourg, France in 2009 and MRS meeting, Boston, in 2015. Awarded the A*STAR International Fellowship in 2014. Worked as a postdoc in Imperial College London in collaborative projects with University of Vienna. Non-academic interests include playing the guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, long-distance running, playing various ball-games and reading.
