Keep an engine room watch at sea and in port;
Operate, maintain and repair the main engine, generators, steering gears, (including emergency steering gear), refrigerating machinery, fuel pumps, feed pumps, boilers, distillation units and auxiliary machinery, piping, etc;
Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all machinery, and prevent outbreak of fire and oil pollution. Take an active interest in safety procedures and maintain all safety equipment, fire detection and firefighting equipment. Keep engine control systems in a thoroughly efficient state;
Carry out the instructions of the deck duty officer in respect of cargo pumping or ballasting and deballasting, and record operations in the Engine Room Logbook;
Assist the Second Engineer in testing the boiler water, the upkeep of firefighting equipment and lifeboat engines;
