In my experience of more than ten years, I have gained enough confidence, skills, and expertise in the field of venipuncture. As head of Tan Tock Seng Hospital's Department of Laboratory Medicine's Phlebotomy Services, I had been involved in both departmental and hospital wide undertakings. I have taken the lead role in the Education and Phlebotomy training of over 500 healthcare professionals (Nurses, Medical Technologists, Doctors, and new hired phlebotomist's), in a span of eleven years. I am an active member of the Hospital Quality Improvement Projects Committee which focuses on Specialist Clinics error reduction and prevention of needle stick injuries among healthcare workers. Part and parcel of my responsibilities are the preparation, revision, amendment, and updating of all the Standard Operating Procedures and Policies of the Phlebotomy section of the laboratory. In line with my responsibilities, I also take the challenging role of ensuring that Protocols, SOP's are signed, approved, dated, by corresponding staff or officers, in preparation for any inspections/ accreditation's. As Continuing Education Program is strictly adhered to by the hospital, I make sure all the personnel under my supervision are monitored, sent for courses, either locally or internationally. Being instrumental in the success of the pioneering PHLEBOTOMY Services of Tan Tock Seng Hospital, which started as a team of six, I now currently have forty-three fully trained Venipuncturists. Because of this, I was awarded the National Healthcare Group (NHG) Inter-professional Teaching Award in 2016 under the NHG Teaching Excellence Awards in recognition of my contributions towards coaching students/staff of different professions. Two years ago, I was awarded the Support Staff Award in 2019 for Clinical Educator Award in TTSH in recognition of my commitment and contribution to education.
