I was an assistant preschool teacher for my 6 months internship program in PCF Sparkletots Preschool. My key responsibilities are : co-teach the class with main teacher, plan lessons acccording to centre's lesson plan, self-make lesson plans for the children, alter lesson materials according to each child's learning abilities. I also often helped with routine care transition and assisting in centre's celebration decorations.
Joining 4B watches as a sales associate has helped me sharpen my communication skills even further. The main responsibility of my job scope is that we have to sell off products in the store, and most of the time there will only be one person over looking the store. It forces me to get out of my comfort zone and really talk to the customers to understand what kind of products they are looking for such that i can assist them further. Whenever I sell a product, I gain a huge sense of accomplishment!
My class had chosen to volunteer at St. Joseph's home, and we hosted the session online due to covid restrictions at that time. I was appointed to be in charge of the befriending team. My main responsibility was to make sure that my classmates were able to interact with the elderlies well and that the flow of the event was smooth sailing. The planning of this event took a total of three months, from preparing games to thinking of what to send over to the elderly home. There were also performances prepared by some of my classmates, such as singing and playing the guitar. I felt happy being able to play games with the elderlies, as I know that they might feel bored being in the same place often. Me and my friends agreed that we felt delighted to see them enjoying our games and singing along with us, It was truly fulfilling to know that the event was a success. Although it was through Zoom and we did not get to interact in person, it was an interesting way to learn how to organise a volunteering event in a different way.
My CCA and I went to the NTUC elderly home to put up a dance performance for the elderlies, and we also played some games with them. It was a very heartwarming scene, as some of the elderlies were singing for us when we were dancing for them. We also each brought healthy snacks from home, to give to the elderlies as a gift. I felt a feeling of empathy for some of them after talking to them and finding out that their children had left them there. Although it was a one day thing and we were only there for a few hours, it was a memorable one and I loved spending time with the elderlies there.
