I have always been fascinated the electrical world. Seeing how important electricity and how without electricity can affect the whole world tells me that being in the Electrical Field we are playing an important role in keeping Singapore running 24/7. With this i decided to apply Electrical Engineering (EE) after my 'N' Levels as i wanted a different approach rather than going to 'O' Levels.
I still remember my first major electrical blackout in 2018 when parts of Singapore encountered blackout. Seeing how my entire estate had black out opened my eyes on how severe the blackout was. I vividly remembered I had a flight to catch at 3am to China for a ITE School Trip to Hunan, China. Going to the airport seeing our traffic lights not in working condition and a road marshall had to direct traffic has made me wondered what if the blackout persists for the next few hours and how it would affect commuters going to work or school.
This shown how important the roles we had to play not take our reliable electrical system for granted, can you imagine how much inconvenience it would bring if the entire Singapore was to be in total darkness.
During my ITE days, I have made bad choices of not listening in class, mixing with the wrong group of people and taking my studies seriously. After seeing my results, I was worried as I had to score a cumulative GPA of 2.5 to get into a Polytechnic in Singapore. I decided to change my habits and studied hard for my exams with the help of my friends. My lecturers noticed that I had changed myself and was pleased that i had turned over a new leaf.
As the days goes by, I got more and more confident and fell in love with what I was doing. It felt like a calling instead of dragging myself to school everyday. I enjoyed learning the practical sessions in class and listening to my lecturers sharing what they have did and learnt in the working world. I was given an opportunity to share with my cohort on the challenges I faced on stage when I received the Good Progress Award for the second time. I could see that my lecturers and close group of friends whom I still keep in touch until today was proud.
The journey I had in ITE was fulfilling and I will give anything to go back to ITE and experience it all over again.
Fast forward to my Polytechnic, I have also learnt to hone my presentation skills as we had to present to the class at the end of the day. I learnt how to work and lead with different types of people and remembered the challenges we faced during my FYP Competition. The long nights and staying long hours in school proved to be worth after my team clinch 1st place and the satisfaction that we had did our best and come this far.
I am grateful for the opportunities given and look forward to apply what I have learnt from my time in ITE and Polytechnic.
I have been working out since 2015 during my secondary school days. Going to the gym allows me to de-stress and I will feel better after a workout session.
Working out will test your mental capacity as you are forcing your body to undergo high amount of stress while keeping a good form to prevent injuries.
Everyone wants to workout and always look forward to the thinking that the results will come fast however it is a marathon rather than a sprint.
Applying what I learn in the gym which is always mind over matter and applying it in life while the going gets tough has helped me tremendously. I am grateful to the weights and the lessons it has taught me for all these years.
This is something that i enjoy doing and has benefited me. I hope that you will also give it a try and investing in yourself will be worth it in the long run.
